Navigating the COVID-19 Crisis: YFGN’s Commitment to Community Support
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Youth for Good Nepal (YFGN) undertook various crisis management initiatives to address the challenges faced by the people of Nepal, where the economy and daily lives were severely impacted. Demonstrating exceptional leadership and dedication, YFGN made an immense impact through their efforts, focusing on providing free oxygen refilling services, distributing food to those in need, supporting underprivileged communities, and keeping the public informed.
One of the crucial contributions of YFGN was their commitment to food distribution through the launch of the “Hunger Relief Program” with the slogan “We share because we care.” This program addressed hunger in areas like Butwal, Bhairahawa, Kaski, and Dharan. YFGN made substantial efforts to assist struggling families hit hard by the pandemic. A notable example is the support provided to 32-year-old Rajiv BK, a resident of Devinagar, Butwal. Rajiv, along with his family of five, faced significant financial difficulties since the second wave of COVID-19 began, as the head of the family required regular dialysis. YFGN’s Butwal team stepped in to provide essential aid during this difficult time.
In addition to food distribution efforts, YFGN provided free oxygen refills in Butwal and Bhairahawa. One of the recipients was Parshuram, aged 50, from Rupandehi, who received 2.5 liters of free oxygen refills. This support was crucial for individuals like Parshuram who could not afford refills and needed essential oxygen to heal. The unwavering support during the crisis demonstrates YFGN’s deep commitment to the community. As they continue their efforts, YFGN remains focused on addressing the evolving needs of those affected and striving to provide relief where it is most needed.
At Bhim Hospital in Bhairahawa, YFGN, with support from Birat Medic Clinic, handed over 25 bundles of mineral water to the frontliners and staff. Furthermore, YFGN played a vital role in keeping people updated on the latest case numbers, tips on mask usage, and simplified guidance on pulse oximetry. Significant notices and updates from the Ministry of Health of Nepal related to COVID-19 were shared on social media platforms to keep everyone informed and aware, along with various major resources, numbers, and helplines.
Through their remarkable crisis management efforts, YFGN not only supported those in need but also provided a source of hope and credibility for the community. Their actions included providing oxygen refills, distributing food, and running fundraising programs that focused on the immediate needs of families and individuals. As disaster and crisis management is a core area of YFGN’s work, the motto “Inspiring Change and Driving Impact” reflects their commitment to creating meaningful solutions and fostering resilience. Overall, YFGN successfully supported over 1,000 individuals, highlighting their profound impact during the pandemic.
